APB Reloaded: June Matchmaking Newspost
Version: 1.30.0.843510
Building on what we established
This patch will have major improvements and adjustments to the matchmaking system, released in February 2024. The enhancements in this release are still considered beta, and we request your help to identify issues. Your feedback is very helpful and appreciated.
Moving Matchmaking to operate on a dedicated server
Last February, various matchmaking processes were moved from the District to the World server. The change was necessary to allow for Cross-district matchmaking in the future. However, the change caused issues that many of you may have experienced upon its release. To ensure stability for both the World Server and the matchmaking itself, the matchmaker has been moved to a dedicated matchmaking server. The change will not only increase stability, but will also provide more resources to the matchmaker to run faster.
Backup calls
Back in February when Little Orbit shipped the new matchmaking system, Backup was changed significantly and these changes were not communicated properly to you, the players. In that release, matchmaking did not provide an overmatched team the ability to call for backup. The limitation caused many missions to be imbalanced, especially towards the end of our 10 Pass System, in which matchmaking accuracy intentionally drops for the sake of getting players a Match.
With this release, we are reintroducing Backup calls for teams that were overmatched. However, it will work a little differently than the backup system did before the matchmaking rework. If one team's average matchmaking rating is 30% less than that of the other team, they are considered "overmatched" and will now have access to call for Backup again. But, this new version will call one Player to each team with the overall goal of decreasing the matchmaking rating difference between the two teams. As a result, matchmaking is intentionally going to look for players that will even out said matchmaking rating difference by adding players of different skill levels to either team.
Reintroducing Backup in this manner allows for a fail-safe that will eventually give players a mission regardless of match accuracy if they have waited a long time.
Escalation calls
With the reworked matchmaking system, Little Orbit committed to no longer supporting lopsided missions, this combined with a change in how backup works led to the removal of large-scale missions. We have read your feedback and have heard you loud and clear, so we are introducing Escalation calls.
Escalation calls are an optional feature presented to both Team leaders, if both teams in the match are evenly skilled, and this replaces backup calls. Escalation requires mutual consent, meaning that both team leaders will need to put in a request to escalate the mission.
Once an escalation call has been initiated via mutual consent between both Team leaders, it will begin to escalate the mission by adding more players of similar matchmaking rating, up to 10 players on each team. Each time a wave of players is added, both team leaders are required to request for Escalation again.
This is an experimental system, and early testing feedback has been positive. We will be applying feedback from our community to further enhance and improve escalation. Keep an eye out for an Escalation Feedback post on our Forums and Discord in the coming days.
Bug fixes
Additionally, we have fixed the following bugs with the Matchmaker:
- Missions should no longer be able to start with uneven player counts.
- Players who were kicked from a mission after receiving a demerit should no longer be able to be called back in as backup to that very same mission.
Known Issues
- Sometimes a backup can create lopsided missions.
- Escalation calls can exceed the limit of 10 players per team.
- Sometimes grouped players get pulled into a mission without their other group members.
